Habitat Program
A Step Closer to Self Sufficiency

The Habitat Program is a transitional housing initiative located in a 34-unit apartment building on Pearl Street, open to both men and women. Operated by The Salvation Army and owned by the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB), the program supports individuals living with developmental and mental health challenges, some of whom also have physical disabilities. On-site staff provide low-level support to help residents manage daily living and maintain housing stability.
Designed to prepare residents for more independent living, the program offers recreational and life-skills programming led by case workers. These activities aim to build confidence, enhance daily functioning, and promote social connection. By combining stable housing with compassionate support, the Habitat Program helps residents gradually transition to independent accommodations within the community.
