Jordin Tootoo
Valerie Pringle is a Canadian journalist, broadcaster, and public speaker with an accomplished career spanning 50 years. She was a well-known host of two national news programs, Canada AM on CTV and Midday on CBC, where she reported on the biggest issues of the day, including presidential elections, royal weddings, space launches, and natural disasters. Along with being a broadcaster, Valerie's dedication to social issues has been a distinguishing aspect of her public persona and has motivated many to follow in her footsteps. She also played a key role in building the Trans Canada Trail across the country, working for more than 20 years to realize its vision. She is also a mental health advocate, currently serving as Chair of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation. In 2006 she was made a Member of the Order of Canada for her work in broadcasting and philanthropy. She received an Honorary Doctorate from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2010 and is an honorary fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. At the event she will be shedding light on the demanding topic "Mental Health is Health", addressing its attributes - Stigma, Empowerment, Hope, and Community.
